where can i find a reliable source for wind turbine windmills that look like the traditional ones. modern ones are just to hideous
I have a rural site in upstate New York that has no restrictions up to 35 feet. 50 miles of unobstructed wind energy
35 feet is about the bare minumum height to install a wind turbine, and that is assuming the turbine’s height is taller than other structures within 250-300 ft.
If you really must have the ancient fashioned well-pump look, consider a newer turbine like the Skystream or a Bergey, but disguise it with a custom set of blades and perhaps a cover that pleases you. If you do not use the modern blades, you can expect a lot less efficiency from any turbine. Mike

Before you go investing all the money in a residential windmill, you might want to check with your local zoning laws to verify that they will allow for a residential windmill…

The efficient capture of wind energy requires a very special and smooth shape to the windmill. The appearance you want would greatly reduce the efficiency of the windmill, just like making a modern airliner look like an ancient biplane would reduce its efficiency. It is all about controlling air flow and that requires a shape dictated by aerodynamics and not appearance.
